The Wilkinson Sword winners at the 2019 National Championships are the South East.
The region has won the coveted title for the third year in a row.
Itchen Sixth Form College will be fielding both a girls and boys volleyball team at this year’s National Championships for the first time in the college’s history.
Both teams progressed to the finals in Nottingham by winning all of their matches at the South East regional tournament before Christmas.
Volleyball in the South East has traditionally seen the likes of Bexhill College and Peter Symonds College represent the region so it is significant that they beat both colleges in the men’s and women’s section.
Coach James Bedwell said: “This is a massive achievement for both teams to progress, since volleyball has only recently developed at Itchen.
“We are always up against very professional set-ups in the South East region with strong competition from Peter Symonds and Bexhill, who have always traditionally represented the South East region at the National Championships.
“Both boys and girls teams progressed by winning all their games at the regionals and are now very excited for the Nationals Championships in Nottingham. For many of the players it will be their first time competing at this level.”
