Paralympic gold medallist to host opening ceremony

AoC Sport is delighted to announce that the host of this year’s opening ceremony will be Paralympic gold medallist and former world record holder, Danny Crates.

As a promising rugby player at the age of 21, Danny lost his right arm in a car accident. However, he went on to pursue a career in athletics, winning medals at two Paralympic Games as well as a 11 further gold medals at World and European Championships. 

Danny carried the Olympic torch in 2008 and was part of the UK’s commentary team for the London 2012 Paralympics. He is a world renowned motivation speaker and TV presenter and we are so excited to have him hosting our opening ceremony.
