In 2017, the West Midlands region finished in 3rd place at the National Championships, which is a fantastic achievement and only a few points of 2nd and 1st place. We have been consistent over the past few years but in 2018 we hope to better this position and return to the West Midlands with the Wilkinson Sword.
Twenty-three different West Midland’s colleges took part in the regional tournaments and 16 different colleges qualified for the Championships.
Last year’s result: 3rd
Colleges representing the region in 2018: Birmingham Met College, Cirencester College, City Of Stoke On Trent Sixth Form College, Dudley College, Halesowen College, Hartpury College, Hereford and Ludlow College, Hereford Sixth Form College, Joseph Chamberlin Sixth Form College, King Edwards VI College Stourbridge, Newcastle Under Lyme College, Sandwell College, Shrewsbury College, Stafford College, Stoke On Trent College and Worcester Sixth Form College.
Star athlete: Birmingham Met’s female basketball team put in a brilliant performance against Sandwell College in the final of the women’s basketball. Narrowly beating Sandwell in a very intense and high pace final game. An all-round great performance from both teams, but BMET are definitely one to watch this year.
One to watch: Joseph Chamberlin’s cricket side are ones to watch this year, they put in a brilliant team performance that saw them win every game at the West Midlands regional tournament.
National Championships veterans: Lucy Holt from Newcastle Under Lyme has represented the region in cross country for the past two years. She hopes to bring success to the regional side once again.
