AoC Sport and University of Nottingham agree two-year National Championships deal

AoC Sport is delighted to announce we have agreed a two-year deal with the University of Nottingham to host our annual National Championships.

The 2017 National Championships took place at the University of Nottingham and surrounding facilities to great success, and a deal has now been put in place for the event to remain there for both 2018 and 2019.

The 2018 Championships which will take place between 20-22 April will mark the 40th anniversary of the event.  Students from colleges across the country including Northern Ireland for the first time will represent their regions in 13 different sports, including 7-a-side football, hockey, squash and badminton.

AoC Sport Managing Director, Marcus Kingwell, said: “We are delighted that we will be taking the AoC Sport National Championships back to the University of Nottingham for both 2018 and 2019.

“The University boasts some of the best sports facilities in the country, befitting of the calibre of the Championships, which was acknowledged when Nottingham Conferences picked up the Best Outdoor Space award at the recent inaugural Academic Venue Awards.

“The students who competed at last year’s Championships were hugely impressed with what the University of Nottingham had to offer, in particular the David Ross Sports Village, and we can’t wait to return in April for another top-class event.”

Christine Bailey, Assistant Director of Sport at the University of Nottingham, added: “We are excited to host the National Championships for a further two years at the David Ross Sports Village and Highfields Sports Ground. We believe our world-class facilities offer a safe and professional venue for major competitions and events of this scale and we look forward to working with AoC Sport to inspire the next generation of talented athletes.”

The AoC Sport National Championships 2018 will be run in collaboration with Nottingham Conferences - the event delivery arm of the University of Nottingham – as well as Sport Nottinghamshire, Nottingham City Council and tourism agency Experience Nottinghamshire.

Andrew May, General Manager at Nottingham Conferences, said: “Together with our partners, we are thrilled that AoC Sport has chosen to host the annual event for the next two years in our state-of-the-art sports facilities here at the University of Nottingham as well as other premier sports venues.

“Having hosted the AoC Sport National Championships for the first time in April, the 2018 and 2019 National Championships will no doubt build on this year’s successes and provide us with additional opportunity to welcome participants to Nottingham and showcase our amazing sporting infrastructure.

“Over recent years, the University has invested heavily in sport to create class-leading sporting facilities for all current and future students. I am delighted that AoC Sport competitors will have an opportunity to experience these incredible facilities first-hand.”
