Warrington newbies "ping" themselves into National Championships

When two students decided to participate in Warrington Collegiate’s Active You project in September, they did so with the aim of trying something new and making friends at their new college.

But not only have the informal sessions proved fun for both Ollie Fletcher and Louis Jameson, but they have also flourished at table tennis – so much so that just eight months after picking up a bat for the first time, the pair will be representing the North West region at the AoC Sport National Championships.

It’s been quite some progression for the duo, who quickly became hooked on the sport and attended sessions every break and lunchtime – soon offering tips and advice to other students who wanted to develop their own skills further.

Ollie and Louis, who are both studying Plumbing Foundation Diploma Level 1, then earned the right to represent Warrington Collegiate at the AoC Sport regional tournaments after victory at an in-house competition, before becoming North West regional champions to book their place at the 2016 National Championships.

The pair will now travel to Tyne and Wear in April, where they will be looking to go one step further on their impressive table tennis journey.
