Organising and running a multi-sport, multi-venue event doesn't just happen by itself; it takes the hard work and dedication of a large team of people. The good news is that over 70 volunteers from 15 colleges and universities have now been recruited from over 150 people who put themselves forward to be a part of this exciting event.
The volunteers will provide support during the three days of Championship activity, carrying out a wide range of essential jobs including scoring, photography, refereeing, transport and social media.
Before embarking on their official duties, the volunteers will receive an induction and all necessary training to ensure that they can support the competitors, officials and organisers to ensure the National Championships are an enjoyable and successful event.
Ruth Nicholson from Tyne & Wear Sport who is the Volunteer Manager for the Championships said: "Our aim is to make this an inspiring event for everyone that is involved. With 15 different sports and 1800 athletes this competition is the biggest event in the college calendar. It takes a committed workforce to make this happen and I'm sure our volunteers share our vision to make this the most memorable National Championships to date."
