Indoor24 cricket to become 15th sport at 2016 National Championships

AoC Sport is delighted to officially announce that cricket will become the 15th sport at the AoC Sport National Championships 2016.

For the very first time we will see Indoor 24 Cricket join us at the biggest Further Education sporting event in the calendar.

Both AoC Sport and the ECB are very excited by this news and it gives a real lift to the Indoor 24 offer that has gone from strength to strength in FE over the last three years.

In April, we will see the performance finals that have traditionally taken place alongside the participation competition at Edgbaston, move alongside the other 14 sports that are part of the National Championships. Cricketers will now be able fully immerse themselves in the Championships experience like never before as they can look forward to enjoying the ceremonies, comradery, spirit and buzz that have long been associated with this wonderful sporting weekend.

In order to qualify for the competition you must have applied to be part of the indoor 24 programme, and be looking to drive new activity and participation in the sport in your college and show this by submitting at least one activity monitor form.

Due to the late inclusion of this competition the qualifying events will remain in their traditional slot in the new year (late January – early February) and more information will be available in the new year on dates and venues for your region.

The participation competition finals day will run again at the fantastic indoor cricket centre in Birmingham and this year, to replace the performance competition that will move to the Championships weekend, we are looking at the possibility of running a female participation strand on this day.
